Sahih Muslim 1856b (Book 33, Hadith 105) #11915
Oath of Allegiance to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the oath of allegiance taken by the companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) during his time, which did not include a promise to die in battle.

It has been narrated (through a different chain of transmitters) on the authority of Jabir who said: While swearing fealty to the Prophet we did not take the oath to death but that we would not run away (from the battlefield).

QUICK LESSONS:
Uphold loyalty and commitment towards one’s faith even in difficult times .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates an incident from the time of Prophet Muhammad's life when his companions swore fealty to him. This oath did not include a promise to die in battle, but rather that they would not run away from it. This shows us that even though Muslims are expected to fight for their faith and defend it, they are not expected to do so at any cost or risk their lives unnecessarily. It also teaches us that loyalty and commitment towards one's faith is important and should be upheld even in difficult times.
