SUMMARY: Stealing should not be punished with amputation unless the stolen item is worth a quarter of a dinar or more.

'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger as saying: The hand of a thief should not be cut off but for a quarter of a dinar and upwards.

QUICK LESSONS:
Think before you act so you don't have to face harsh punishments for small mistakes.
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that stealing should not be punished with amputation unless the stolen item is worth at least a quarter of a dinar. This means that if someone steals something small, like an apple, they should not have their hand cut off as punishment. The Prophet Muhammad was teaching us to be fair and just in our punishments and to only punish people when it is necessary. He also taught us to think about how our actions will affect others before we do them, so that we don't end up having to face harsh punishments for small mistakes.
