Sahih Muslim 1647a (Book 27, Hadith 7) #11371
Avoiding Oaths and Gambling

SUMMARY: Taking an oath by Lat and al-'Uzza is forbidden, and gambling should be avoided as it requires one to pay sadaqa.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger as saying: He who takes an oath in the course of which he says: By Lat (and al-'Uzza), he should say: There is no god but Allah; and that if anyone says to his friend:" Come and I will gamble with you," he should pay sadaqa.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that taking an oath by Lat and al-'Uzza is forbidden in Islam. Additionally, gambling should also be avoided as it requires one to pay sadaqa. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that we should not take part in activities which involve the worship of false gods or idols, such as Lat and al-'Uzza. Furthermore, he warned us against gambling because it can lead to a person losing their wealth without any benefit or reward from Allah SWT. Therefore, this hadith encourages us to stay away from activities which are considered sinful in Islam so that we may remain on the path of righteousness.
