Sahih Muslim 1646f (Book 27, Hadith 6) #11370
Taking Oaths Only By Allah

SUMMARY: It is not permissible to take an oath by anyone other than Allah.

Ibn 'Umar heard Allah's Messenger as saying: He who has to take an oath, he must not take oath but by Allah. The Quraish used to take oath by their fathers. So he (the Holy Prophet) said: Do not take oath by your fathers.

QUICK LESSONS:
Take Oath Only By Allah .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about taking oaths and the importance of only taking them in the name of Allah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was teaching his followers that it was wrong to take an oath by anyone other than Allah, as the Quraish tribe used to do so with their fathers. This hadith emphasizes that we should only swear by God and no one else, as He is the only one who can guarantee truthfulness in our words. We must remember that when we make a promise or swear an oath, it should be taken seriously and kept faithfully. We must also remember that if we break our promises or fail to keep our word, then this will be seen as a sin in the eyes of God and will have consequences for us both in this life and hereafter.
