Sahih Muslim 1640a (Book 26, Hadith 7) #11353
Vows and Fate

SUMMARY: Making vows has no effect on fate, and it is only the miserly who are affected by them.

Abu Heraira reported Allah's Messenger as saying: Do not take vows, for a vow has no effect against Fate; it is only from the miserly that something is extracted.

QUICK LESSONS:
Do not take vows; Be generous with your wealth; Trust in Allah's plan/fate/destiny .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that making a vow does not have any effect on fate or destiny. It does not change what will happen in the future, as this is predetermined by Allah. The hadith also states that it is only those who are miserly or stingy with their money who will be affected by taking a vow, as they may be forced to give away something they would rather keep for themselves. This teaches us to be generous with our wealth and possessions, even if we make a promise to do so through taking a vow. We should also remember that whatever happens in life was already written down before we were born, so there is no need to worry about things beyond our control.
