Sahih Muslim 1361a (Book 15, Hadith 519) #10454
Declaring Medina Sacred

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) declared Medina to be sacred, just as Ibrahim (peace be upon him) had declared Mecca to be sacred.

Rafi' b. Khadij reported Allah's Messenger as saying: Ibrahim declared Mecca as sacred and I declare sacred the area between its two stony grounds (lava lands by which he meant Medina).

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect and honor places which have been made holy by Allah or His messengers .

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent by Allah as a messenger and guide for all of humanity. He taught us many things about how to live our lives in accordance with the will of Allah. One of these teachings is that certain places can become sacred and should not be violated or disrespected in any way. This hadith tells us that the Prophet Muhammad declared the area between two stony grounds in Medina to be sacred, just as Ibrahim had previously declared Mecca to be sacred. This shows us that we should respect and honor places which have been made holy by Allah or His messengers, and not do anything which would disrespect them or violate their sanctity.
