Sahih Muslim 1233a (Book 15, Hadith 205) #10140
Following the Teachings of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of following the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) over any other person's opinion.

Wabara reported: While I was sitting in the company of Ibn 'Umar, a person came to him and said: Is it right for me to circumambulate the House before I come to stay (at 'Arafat)? Ibn 'Umar said: Yes. whereupon he said: Ibn Abbas, however, says: Do not circumambulate the House until you come to stay at 'Arafat. Thereupon Ibn 'Umar said: Allah's Messenger Performed the Hajj and circumambulated the House before coming to stay (at 'Arafat). If you say the Truth, is it more rightful to follow the saying of the Prophet or the words of Ibn Abbas?

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of following the teachings and commands of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ over any other person's opinion. It was narrated by Wabara, who was sitting in the company of Ibn 'Umar when a person came to him and asked if it was right for him to circumambulate around Kaaba before coming to stay at 'Arafat during Hajj. Ibn 'Umar said yes, but then he mentioned that Ibn Abbas said not to do so until one comes to stay at 'Arafat. To this, Ibn Umar replied that Allah's Messenger ﷺ performed Hajj and circumambulated around Kaaba before coming to stay at 'Arafat, thus asking if it would be more rightful for one to follow what Allah’s Messenger ﷺ did or what Ibn Abbas said? This hadith teaches us that we should always obey and follow what Allah’s Messenger ﷺ has taught us instead of anyone else’s opinion or words even if they are scholars or knowledgeable people in their own right.
