Sahih Muslim 1233b (Book 15, Hadith 206) #10141
Following Allah's Way Over Others

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of following the way prescribed by Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ) over any other way, even if it is shown by someone who is dearer to us.

Wabara reported: A person asked Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with him): May I circumambulate the House, whereas I have entered-into the state of Ihram for Hajj? Thereupon he said: What prevents you from doing it? He said: I saw the son of so and so showing disapproval of it, and you are dearer to us as compared with him. And we see that he is allured by the world, whereupon he said: Who amongst you and us is not allured by the world? And said (further) ': 'We saw that Allah's Messenger put on Ihram for Hajj and circumambulated the House and run between al Safa' and al-Marwa. And the way prescribed by Allah and that prescribed by His Apostle deserve more to be followed than the way shown by so and so, if you speak the truth.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow what has been prescribed by Allah and His Messenger ﷺ .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of following what Allah and His Messenger have prescribed for us over anything else. Even if someone we love or are close to shows us a different way, we should still follow what has been prescribed by Allah and His Messenger as that will be more beneficial for us in this life and in the hereafter. We can see this from how Ibn Umar responded when he was asked whether it was permissible to circumambulate the House while in a state of Ihram for Hajj - he said that there was nothing preventing him from doing so as he saw that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did it himself. This teaches us that no matter who tells us something different than what has been prescribed by Allah and His Messenger ﷺ , we should always prioritize their teachings over anyone else’s opinion or advice.
