The Night of Power and the Waning Moon

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was talking about the night of power and mentioned that it is when the moon is waning.

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported: We were talking about Lailat-ul-Qadr in the presence of the Messenger of Allah and he said: He who amongst you remembers (the night) when the moon arose and it was like a piece of plate (at the fag end of the month in a state of waning).

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was talking about Laylat al-Qadr or ‘the night of power’. This is a special night in which Allah’s blessings are abundant and many Muslims spend this night in prayer and worship. The Prophet mentioned that it can be identified by looking at the moon; specifically when it appears like a piece of plate or hilaal at the end of its cycle when it is waning. This hadith teaches us to look for signs from Allah to identify important moments in our lives such as Laylat al-Qadr so we can take advantage of them to seek His blessings. It also encourages us to observe nature around us as signs from Allah for guidance in our lives.
