Making Up Missed Fasts

SUMMARY: A woman came to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and asked him how she can make up for a missed fast. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) told her to fast one month consecutively.

Ibn Buraida (Allah be pleased with him) reported on the authority of his father: A woman came to the Messenger of Allah , and the rest of the hadith is the same, but he said:" Fasting of one month".
وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، - رضى الله عنه - قَالَ جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ‏.‏ فَذَكَرَ بِمِثْلِهِ وَقَالَ صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about making up for missed fasts in Islam. It is narrated by Ibn Buraida, Allah be pleased with him, on the authority of his father that a woman came to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). She asked him how she can make up for a missed fast and he told her to fast one month consecutively. This hadith teaches us that if we miss any obligatory fasting days due to any reason then we should make them up as soon as possible by fasting one month consecutively or spreading out our missed days over multiple months until they are all made up. It also teaches us that it is important to ask questions when we are unsure about something related to our religion so that we can learn more and practice it correctly according to Islamic teachings.
