Fasting in Extreme Heat

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Abdullah b. Rawaha were on a journey on an intensely hot day, yet they were the only ones fasting.

Abu Darda' reported: We were with the Messenger of Allah on some of his journeys on an intensely hot day so much so that a person would place his hand on his head (in order to protect himself) against excessive heat, and none amongst us was fasting but the Messenger of Allah and Abdullah b. Rawaha

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow Allah's Commands; Fast despite difficult situations; Remain steadfast in faith; Strive for excellence; Show devotion towards God's orders .

EXPLANATIONS:
On one of his journeys with his companions, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Abdullah b. Rawaha experienced an intensely hot day where it was so hot that people had to cover their heads with their hands to protect themselves from the heat. Despite this extreme weather condition, both of them were fasting while none of the other companions were doing so. This hadith teaches us that even in difficult times we should strive to do our best and remain steadfast in our faith by following Allah's commands no matter what situation we are in. It also shows us how devoted the Prophet Muhammad was to Allah's commands as he continued fasting despite being on a journey and facing such extreme weather conditions.
