The Fasting of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) on the Day of 'Arafa

SUMMARY: Umm al-Fadl reported that some people argued about the fasting of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on the day of 'Arafa, and she sent a cup of milk to him while he was riding his camel at 'Arafa, and he drank it.

Umm al-Fadl bint- al-Harith reported that some people argued about the fasting of the Messenger of Allah on the day of 'Arafa. Some of them said that he had been fasting, whereas the others said that he had not been fasting. I sent a cup of milk to him while he was riding his camel at 'Arafa, and he drank it.
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ عَنْ أَبِي النَّضْرِ، عَنْ عُمَيْرٍ، مَوْلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ أُمِّ الْفَضْلِ بِنْتِ الْحَارِثِ، أَنَّ نَاسًا، تَمَارَوْا عِنْدَهَا يَوْمَ عَرَفَةَ فِي صِيَامِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ هُوَ صَائِمٌ وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لَيْسَ بِصَائِمٍ ‏.‏ فَأَرْسَلْتُ إِلَيْهِ بِقَدَحِ لَبَنٍ وَهُوَ وَاقِفٌ عَلَى بَعِيرِهِ بِعَرَفَةَ فَشَرِبَهُ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about Prophet Muhammad's fasting on the day of Arafah. Umm al-Fadl reported that some people were arguing whether or not he had been fasting. To prove that he was indeed fasting, she sent him a cup of milk while he was riding his camel at Arafah and he drank it. This shows us how important it is to follow in the footsteps and teachings set by our beloved prophet as an example for us to follow in our lives. It also teaches us to be mindful when we are discussing matters related to religion as we should always strive for accuracy in our words and actions. Furthermore, this hadith also highlights how generous Prophet Muhammad was even when faced with difficult situations such as hunger due to fasting; despite being hungry himself, he still accepted what Umm Al-Fadl offered him out of kindness and gratitude towards her gesture.
