Sahih Muslim 1119a (Book 13, Hadith 128) #9767
Rewarding Those Who Fast on a Journey

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that those who fasted on a journey should be rewarded for their efforts, even if they are not able to complete the fast due to exhaustion.

Anas (Allah be pleased with him) reported: We were with the Messenger of Allah on a journey. Some of us had been observing the fast and some of us had not been fasting. We got down at a place on a hot day. Most of us had the cloth for shelter. There were also those amongst us who sheltered (themselves against the rays of the) sun with the help of their hands. The observers of the fast fell down (on account of weakness). Those who had not observed it got up and pitched tents and watered the mounts. Thereupon the Messenger of Allah said: The breakers of the fast have taken away the reward today.

QUICK LESSONS:
Persevere in difficult times; Show compassion towards others; Do intentional good deeds; Have faith in God's rewards

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about the importance of fasting during a journey and how it is rewarded by Allah. It also shows us that even if we are unable to complete our fast due to exhaustion, we will still be rewarded for our efforts. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was travelling with his companions when some of them were fasting and some were not. Those who were fasting became weak from the heat and could no longer continue their fast, while those who weren't fasting took care of them by pitching tents and watering their mounts. The Prophet then said that those who broke their fast would still receive reward from Allah for trying to observe it in the first place. This hadith teaches us about perseverance in difficult times as well as compassion towards others, especially when they are in need of help or support. It also reminds us that Allah rewards all good deeds regardless of whether or not they are completed successfully; He sees our intentions and rewards accordingly.
