Sahih Muslim 1082a (Book 13, Hadith 24) #9663
Fasting Before Ramadan

SUMMARY: It is not recommended to fast two days before Ramadan, except for those who have a habit of fasting on certain days.

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger as saying: Do not observe fast for a day, or two days ahead of Ramadan except a person who is in the habit of observing a particular fast; he may fast on that day.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow what has been prescribed by Allah and His Messenger regarding fasting .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of fasting during the month of Ramadan and how it should be done. According to this hadith, it is not recommended to fast two days before Ramadan, except for those who have a habit of fasting on certain days. This means that if someone has a regular practice or routine of fasting on specific days throughout the year, then they can continue doing so even in the two days leading up to Ramadan. However, if someone does not usually fast regularly throughout the year then they should refrain from doing so in these two days leading up to Ramadan. The main idea behind this hadith is that one should only observe fasts when it has been prescribed by Allah and His Messenger and not just because one feels like it or out of habit without any religious purpose behind it.

This hadith also teaches us about discipline and moderation in our religious practices; we must ensure that we are following what has been prescribed by Allah and His Messenger instead of going overboard with our own ideas or habits which may lead us astray from true faithfulness towards God Almighty. Additionally, this hadith also encourages us to maintain consistency in our religious practices throughout the year instead of just focusing on them during special occasions such as Ramadhan or Hajj season only; this will help us stay connected with God Almighty all year round instead of just during special times when everyone else around us is doing so too!
