Sahih Muslim 1075b (Book 12, Hadith 224) #9623
Gift-Giving in Islam

SUMMARY: The hadith is about a woman named Barirah who gave a gift to 'A'isha and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that it was both a sadaqa for her and a gift for them.

'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) said: Three are the decions (of the Shari'ah that we have come to know) through Barirah. The people gave her sadaqa and she offered us as gift. We made a mention of it to the Messenger of Allah , whereupon he said: It is a sadaqa for her and a gift for you; so eat it.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of giving gifts in Islam. It tells us that when someone gives us something as a gift, we should accept it graciously and thank them for their generosity. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) also taught us that if someone gives us something as charity or sadaqa, then we should accept it too. He said that this is both an act of kindness towards the giver and an act of gratitude towards Allah. This teaches us to be generous with our gifts and to always remember Allah's blessings upon us.
