Sahih Muslim 1057a (Book 12, Hadith 166) #9565
Kindness in the Face of Violence

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was pulled by a Bedouin so violently that it left marks on his neck, yet he still showed kindness and gave the Bedouin a gift.

Anas b. Malik reported: I was walking with the Messenger of Allah and he had put on a mantle of Najran with a thick border. A bedouin met him and pulled the mantle so violently that I saw this violent pulling leaving marks of the border of the mantle on the skin of the neck of the Messenger of Allah . And he (the bedouin) said: Muhammad, issue command that I should be given out of the wealth of Allah which is at your disposal. The Messenger of Allah turned his attention to him and smiled, and then ordered for him a gift (provision).

QUICK LESSONS:
Responding to violence or aggression with kindness and generosity .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) exemplary character and how he responded to violence with kindness. In this hadith, Anas b. Malik recounts an incident where he was walking with the Prophet Muhammad when they were approached by a bedouin who pulled his mantle so hard that it left marks on his neck. Despite this violent act, the Prophet Muhammad did not respond in kind but instead smiled and ordered for him to be given out of Allah's wealth as a gift. This hadith teaches us that even when faced with violence or aggression we should respond with kindness and generosity as exemplified by our beloved prophet. It also serves as an example of how we should treat others regardless of their actions towards us; always responding with love and compassion rather than hatred or revenge.
