Invoking Curses and Abandoning It

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) prayed for a month to invoke a curse upon some tribes of Arabia, but then stopped.

Anas reported that the Messenger of Allah observed Qunut for one month invoking curse upon some tribes of Arabia (those who were responsible for the murders in Bi'r Ma'una and Raji'), but then abandoned it.

QUICK LESSONS:
Think before acting on anger or resentment; Trust in Allah's judgement; Pray regularly; Be patient with others.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's practice of Qunut, which is a type of supplication made during prayer. In this particular instance, he was praying for one month to invoke a curse upon some tribes of Arabia who were responsible for the murders in Bi’r Ma’una and Raji'. After this period, he abandoned it. This hadith teaches us that although we may feel anger or resentment towards someone or something, we should not act on it without thinking carefully first. We should also remember that Allah alone has the power to punish those who do wrong and that He will do so in His own time.
