Prostration on Seven Bones

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was commanded to prostrate on seven bones and forbidden to fold back the hair and clothing.

Ibn 'Abbas reported: The Apostle of Allah had been commanded that he should prostrate on the seven (bones) and he was forbidden to fold back the hair and clothing. And in the narration transmitted by Abu Rabi' (the words are):" on the seven bones and I was forbidden to fold back the hair and clothing". According to Abu'l-Rabi' (the seven bones are): The hands, the knees, and the (extremities) of the feet and the forehead.
وَحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، وَأَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ، قَالَ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا وَقَالَ أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ أُمِرَ النَّبِيُّ أَنْ يَسْجُدَ عَلَى سَبْعَةٍ وَنُهِيَ أَنْ يَكُفَّ شَعْرَهُ وَثِيَابَهُ ‏.‏ هَذَا حَدِيثُ يَحْيَى ‏.‏ وَقَالَ أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ عَلَى سَبْعَةِ أَعْظُمٍ وَنُهِيَ أَنْ يَكُفَّ شَعْرَهُ وَثِيَابَهُ الْكَفَّيْنِ وَالرُّكْبَتَيْنِ وَالْقَدَمَيْنِ وَالْجَبْهَةِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of performing salat or prayer in Islam. It is narrated by Ibn 'Abbas that the Prophet Muhammad was commanded to prostrate on seven bones which are the hands, knees and extremities of feet as well as forehead. He was also forbidden from folding back his hair or clothing while performing salat. This hadith teaches us that we should perform our prayers with utmost concentration and focus without any distractions such as folding back our clothes or hair. We should also ensure that we perform all aspects of salat correctly according to Islamic teachings in order for it to be accepted by Allah Almighty.
