Sahih Muslim 467b (Book 4, Hadith 209) #8214
Shortening Prayers for the Weak and Elderly

SUMMARY: When leading a prayer, one should shorten it to accommodate those who are weak or elderly, but when praying alone, one can pray for as long as they like.

Hammam b. Munabbih reported: This is what Abu Huraira transmitted to us from Muhammad the Messenger of Allah , and he narrated (some) ahadith out of (these narrations and one of them is this): The Messenger of Allah said: When any one of you stands to lead people In prayer, he should shorten it, for amongst them are the aged, and amongst them are the weak, but when he prays by himself, he may prolong his prayer as he likes.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be considerate and mindful of others when leading group prayers; Take care of yourself by allowing yourself time for personal reflection during individual prayers; Respect those who are weak or elderly by shortening your own pace during group prayers;

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how to lead prayers in a group setting. The Prophet Muhammad taught that when leading a prayer, it should be shortened so that those who are weak or elderly can keep up with the pace of the prayer without feeling overwhelmed or exhausted. However, if someone is praying alone then they can pray for as long as they like since there is no need to worry about accommodating others in this case. This hadith teaches us to be considerate and mindful of others when we are leading prayers and not make them feel uncomfortable due to our own preferences or desires. It also encourages us to take care of ourselves by allowing ourselves time for personal reflection and contemplation during our individual prayers without worrying about time constraints imposed by others.
