Sahih Muslim 374b (Book 3, Hadith 149) #7997
Ablution Before Eating Not Necessary

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) did not need to perform ablution before eating.

Ibn 'Abbas reported: We were with the Messenger of Allah and he had come out of the privy. Food was presented to him. It was said to him (by the Companions around him): Wouldn't you perform ablution? Upon this he said: Why, am I to say prayer that I should perform ablution?

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform wudu/ablutions when required before praying salat/worshiping Allah SWT .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's teachings on ablution and prayer. According to this hadith, it is not necessary for a person to perform ablution before eating. This means that if a person has just come out of the restroom or done something else that would normally require them to perform wudu or ablutions, they do not need to do so in order for their food to be considered halal and permissible for them to eat. However, it is important for Muslims who are going to pray salat or any other form of worship that requires wudu or ablutions beforehand in order for their prayers and worship acts to be accepted by Allah SWT.
