Sahih Muslim 284b (Book 2, Hadith 126) #7830
Compassion and Mercy in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) showed mercy and compassion to a Bedouin who urinated in the mosque, instead of punishing him.

Anas b. Malik narrated that a desert Arab (Bedouin) stood in a corner of the mosque and urinated there. The people (the Companions of the Prophet who were present there) shouted, but the Messenger of Allah said: Leave him alone. When he had finished, the Messenger of Allah ordered that a bucket (of water) should be brought and poured over it.

QUICK LESSONS:
Show kindness & mercy towards others even if they commit mistakes according to Islamic teachings .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith highlights the importance of compassion and mercy in Islam. It is narrated by Anas b. Malik that a Bedouin was standing in a corner of the mosque and urinating there. The people present there were about to punish him but the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) showed mercy towards him instead. He asked them to leave him alone until he finished his act and then ordered for a bucket of water to be brought so that it could be poured over it as an act of purification. This hadith teaches us that even when someone commits an act which is considered wrong or inappropriate according to Islamic teachings, we should show them kindness and mercy rather than punishing them harshly or scolding them for their mistake. We should also remember that Allah is Most Merciful towards us all so we must strive to emulate His example by showing compassion towards others as well as ourselves.
