Sahih Muslim 285 (Book 2, Hadith 127) #7831
Respect for Mosques

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that mosques are places of worship and remembrance of Allah, not for urinating or other filth.

Anas b. Malik reported: While we were in the mosque with Allah's Messenger , a desert Arab came and stood up and began to urinate in the mosque. The Companions of Allah's Messenger said: Stop, stop, but the Messenger of Allah said: Don't interrupt him; leave him alone. They left him alone, and when he finished urinating, Allah's Messenger called him and said to him: These mosques are not the places meant for urine and filth, but are only for the remembrance of Allah, prayer and the recitation of the Qur'an, or Allah's Messenger said something like that. He (the narrator) said that he (the Holy Prophet) then gave orders to one of the people who brought a bucket of water and poured It over.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect Mosques by keeping them clean from any kind of dirtiness or impurity

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of respecting mosques as places of worship and remembrance of Allah. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was in the mosque with his companions when a desert Arab came and began to urinate in the mosque. His companions wanted to stop him but the Prophet said not to interrupt him and let him finish. After he finished urinating, the Prophet called him over and explained that mosques are not meant for urine or filth but only for prayer and recitation of Quran. He then ordered someone to bring a bucket of water which was poured over where he had urinated as a sign that it should be kept clean from any kind of dirtiness or impurity. This hadith teaches us that we should respect mosques by keeping them clean from any kind of dirtiness or impurity as they are places meant only for prayer and remembrance of Allah.
