Sahih al-Bukhari 736 (Book 10, Hadith 130) #710
Raising Hands During Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to raise his hands up to the shoulders when standing for prayer, saying "Sami'a l-lahu liman hamidah" on bowing and raising his head. He did not do this in prostrations.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: I saw that whenever Allah's Messenger stood for the prayer, he used to raise both his hands up to the shoulders, and used to do the same on saying the Takbir for bowing and on raising his head from it and used to say, "Sami'a l-lahu liman hamidah". But he did not do that (ie raising his hands) in prostrations.

QUICK LESSONS:
Raise your hands during prayer with humility & supplication; focus & concentrate during your prayers; maintain respectful manners even in prostration; say “Sami’a l-lahu liman hamidah” when bowing & raising your head from it .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Abdullah bin Umar states that whenever the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stood for prayer, he would raise both of his hands up to the shoulders and say “Sami’a l-lahu liman hamidah”. This phrase is a supplication which translates to “Allah hears those who praise Him”. It is important to note that he did not do this while in prostration. This hadith teaches us about the importance of raising our hands during prayer as an act of supplication and humility before Allah Almighty. It also reminds us that we should not forget our manners even when we are in prostration, as it is a time for deep contemplation and reflection on Allah's greatness and mercy towards us. We should strive to make every moment of our prayers meaningful by focusing on what we are saying or doing at any given time, rather than just going through the motions without thought or feeling behind them.
