Sahih al-Bukhari 733 (Book 10, Hadith 127) #707
Following the Imam in Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) taught us that the Imam should be followed in prayer and that we should say Takbir, bow, raise our heads, say 'Rabbana laka l-hamd', and prostrate when he does.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: Allah's Messenger fell from a horse and got injured so he led the prayer sitting and we also prayed sitting. When he completed the prayer he said, "The Imam is to be followed; if he says Takbir then say Takbir, bow if he bows; raise your heads when he raises his head, when he says, 'Sami'a l-lahu liman hamidah say, 'Rabbana laka l-hamd', and prostrate when he prostrates".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about following the Imam during prayer. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that when we are praying with an Imam, we must follow him. We must say “Takbir” when he says it, bow down when he bows down, raise our heads up when he raises his head up and say “Sami’Allahu liman hamidah” after him. Lastly, we must prostrate ourselves on the ground like him as well. This hadith teaches us to be obedient to Allah by following His Messenger ﷺ and doing what He has commanded us to do during prayer. It also teaches us how important it is for Muslims to pray together as a community so that everyone can learn from each other's actions and benefit from them spiritually.
