Sahih al-Bukhari 7152 (Book 93, Hadith 16) #6871
The Path To Paradise

SUMMARY: Doing good deeds for the sake of Allah and avoiding any kind of harm to others is the key to success in the hereafter.

Narrated Tarif Abi Tamima: I saw Safwan and Jundab and Safwan's companions when Jundab was advising. They said, "Did you hear something from Allah's Messenger ?" Jundab said, "I heard him saying, 'Whoever does a good deed in order to show off, Allah will expose his intentions on the Day of Resurrection (before the people), and whoever puts the people into difficulties, Allah will put him into difficulties on the Day of Resurrection'." The people said (to Jundab), "Advise us". He said, "The first thing of the human body to purify is the 'Abdomen, so he who can eat nothing but good food (Halal and earned lawfully) should do so, and he who does as much as he can that nothing intervene between him and Paradise by not shedding even a handful of blood, (ie murdering) should do so".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about how one should live their life in order to be successful in the hereafter. It emphasizes on doing good deeds for the sake of Allah and avoiding any kind of harm to others. Jundab, a companion of Prophet Muhammad, was asked by Safwan and his companions if he heard something from Allah's Messenger. He replied that he heard him saying that whoever does a good deed in order to show off, Allah will expose his intentions on the Day of Resurrection before people, and whoever puts people into difficulties, Allah will put him into difficulties on the Day of Resurrection as well. Jundab then advised them that they should start purifying themselves by eating only halal food and not shedding even a handful blood or murdering anyone. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive for righteousness and avoid any kind of wrongdoings as it will lead us towards success in this world as well as hereafter. We must also remember that our intentions are known by God so we must always do things with pure intentions without expecting anything back from anyone else but God Himself.
