Sahih al-Bukhari 7120 (Book 92, Hadith 67) #6839
The Importance of Charity

SUMMARY: Charity is important and should be done regularly as it will become difficult to find people who accept charity in the future.

Narrated Haritha bin Wahb: I heard Allah's Messenger saying, "Give in charity because there will come a time on the people when a person will go out with his alms from place to place but will not find anybody to accept it".

QUICK LESSONS:
Give generously and regularly as an act of worship even if it is only a small amount.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of giving charity, or sadaqah, in Islam. It was narrated by Haritha bin Wahb that he heard Allah's Messenger say that one should give in charity because there will come a time when a person will go out with his alms from place to place but will not find anybody to accept it. This hadith teaches us that we should give generously and regularly as an act of worship, even if it is only a small amount. We must also remember that our donations are not just for ourselves but for others too, so we must be generous and kind when giving away our money or possessions. Furthermore, this hadith reminds us to think ahead and plan for the future; if we do not give now then there may come a time when no one is willing to accept our donations anymore.
