Sahih al-Bukhari 6945 (Book 89, Hadith 6) #6675
Marriage Against One's Will

SUMMARY: The hadith is about a woman who was married off against her will and the Prophet declared that marriage invalid.

Narrated Khansa' bint Khidam Al-Ansariya: That her father gave her in marriage when she was a matron and she disliked that marriage. So she came and (complained) to the Prophets and he declared that marriage invalid.

QUICK LESSONS:
Agreeing on one's own free will before entering into a marriage contract.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of consent in marriage. It tells us that even if a woman is already married off against her will, she can still come to the Prophet and he will declare it invalid. This shows us how important it is for both parties to agree on their own free will before entering into a marriage contract. It also teaches us that we should not force anyone into something they do not want to do as this goes against Islamic teachings.
