Embrace Islam for Safety

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ asked the Jews to embrace Islam and warned them that the Earth belongs to Allah and His Apostle.

Narrated Abu Huraira: While we were in the mosque, Allah's Messenger ﷺ came out to us and said, "Let us proceed to the Jews". So we went along with him till we reached Bait-al-Midras (a place where the Torah used to be recited and all the Jews of the town used to gather). The Prophet ﷺ stood up and addressed them, "O Assembly of Jews! Embrace Islam and you will be safe!" The Jews replied, "O Aba-l-Qasim! You have conveyed Allah's message to us". The Prophet ﷺ said, "That is what I want (from you)". He repeated his first statement for the second time, and they said, "You have conveyed Allah's message, O Aba-l- Qasim". Then he said it for the third time and added, "You should Know that the earth belongs to Allah and His Apostle, and I want to exile you fro,,, this land, so whoever among you owns some property, can sell it, otherwise you should know that the Earth belongs to Allah and His Apostle".
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ إِذْ خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ انْطَلِقُوا إِلَى يَهُودَ ‏"‏‏.‏ فَخَرَجْنَا مَعَهُ حَتَّى جِئْنَا بَيْتَ الْمِدْرَاسِ فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَنَادَاهُمْ ‏"‏ يَا مَعْشَرَ يَهُودَ أَسْلِمُوا تَسْلَمُوا ‏"‏‏.‏ فَقَالُوا قَدْ بَلَّغْتَ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ‏.‏ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ ذَلِكَ أُرِيدُ ‏"‏، ثُمَّ قَالَهَا الثَّانِيَةَ‏.‏ فَقَالُوا قَدْ بَلَّغْتَ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ‏.‏ ثُمَّ قَالَ الثَّالِثَةَ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ اعْلَمُوا أَنَّ الأَرْضَ لِلَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ، وَإِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُجْلِيَكُمْ، فَمَنْ وَجَدَ مِنْكُمْ بِمَالِهِ شَيْئًا فَلْيَبِعْهُ، وَإِلاَّ فَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّمَا الأَرْضُ لِلَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's call to the Jews of Bait-al-Midras to accept Islam. He warned them that if they did not, they would be exiled from their land as it belonged to Allah and His Apostle. The essence of this hadith is that one should accept Islam in order to be safe, as it is a religion of peace and mercy. It also teaches us that we should respect other religions, but ultimately our faith should be in Allah alone. Furthermore, it reminds us that all lands belong ultimately to Allah and His Messenger, so we must obey their commands even if we do not agree with them. Finally, this hadith teaches us about patience; even when faced with rejection or opposition from others, we must remain steadfast in our faith and continue calling people towards good deeds without becoming discouraged or angry.
