Punishment and Mercy

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that no one should be punished with more than ten stripes, unless they have committed a crime for which Allah has prescribed a legal punishment.

QUICK LESSONS:
Show mercy when punishing someone

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about the importance of mercy and justice when it comes to punishing someone. The Prophet (ﷺ) taught that no one should be punished with more than ten stripes, unless they have committed a crime for which Allah has prescribed a legal punishment. This means that if someone commits an offense, then the punishment must fit the crime and not exceed what is necessary. In other words, punishments should be fair and just according to Islamic law. Furthermore, this hadith also emphasizes the importance of mercy in dealing with people who have done wrong; even if they deserve to be punished, we must still show them mercy by not punishing them too harshly or excessively.
