Sahih al-Bukhari 6847 (Book 86, Hadith 69) #6582
Inheritance of Color from Ancestors

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that the color of a child is inherited from their ancestors.

Narrated Abu Huraira: A bedouin came to Allah's Messenger and said, "My wife has delivered a black child". The Prophet said to him, "Have you camels?" He replied, "Yes". The Prophet said, "What color are they?" He replied, "They are red". The Prophet further asked, "Are any of them gray in color?" He replied, "Yes". The Prophet asked him, "Whence did that greyness come?" He said, "I thing it descended from the camel's ancestors". Then the Prophet said (to him), "Therefore, this child of yours has most probably inherited the color from his ancestors".

QUICK LESSONS:
Appreciate our ancestry ; Seek knowledge ; Accept whatever Allah has decreed ; Do not judge people based on physical appearance or race .
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that the color of a child is inherited from their ancestors. It was narrated by Abu Huraira, who was one of the companions of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He said that a bedouin came to him and told him his wife had given birth to a black baby. The Prophet ﷺ asked if he had any camels, and when he replied yes, asked what colour they were. When he said some were red and some grey, the Prophet ﷺ explained that this showed how colour could be passed down through generations - just as it had been with his camels - so it was likely his baby's colour came from its ancestors too. We can learn many lessons from this hadith; firstly, we should not judge people based on their physical appearance or race but rather look at them for who they are inside; secondly, we should appreciate our ancestry and remember where we come from; thirdly, we should accept whatever Allah has decreed for us without complaint or judgement; fourthly, we should always seek knowledge in order to understand things better.
