Punishment for Unlawful Sexual Intercourse

SUMMARY: Unmarried people who commit illegal sexual intercourse should be exiled for one year and receive the legal punishment of being flogged with one-hundred stripes.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger judged that the unmarried person who was guilty of illegal sexual intercourse be exiled for one year and receive the legal punishment (ie, be flogged with one-hundred stripes) .
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَضَى فِيمَنْ زَنَى وَلَمْ يُحْصَنْ بِنَفْىِ عَامٍ بِإِقَامَةِ الْحَدِّ عَلَيْهِ‏.‏
