Sahih al-Bukhari 6821 (Book 86, Hadith 49) #6562
Fasting During Ramadan and Its Consequences

SUMMARY: A person asked the Prophet ﷺ for advice after having sexual relations with his wife while fasting in Ramadan. The Prophet ﷺ suggested that he either manumit a slave, fast for two months, or feed sixty poor persons.

Narrated Abu Huraira: A person had sexual relation with his wife in the month of Ramadan (while he was fasting), and he came to Allah's Messenger seeking his verdict concerning that action. The Prophet said (to him), "Can you afford to manumit a slave?" The man said, "No". The Prophet said, "Can you fast for two successive months?" He said, "No". The Prophet said, "Then feed sixty poor persons".
