Punishment for Drunkenness

SUMMARY: The Prophet and Abu Bakr punished a drunk person with lashes.

Narrated Anas: The Prophet lashed a drunk with date leaf stalks and shoes. And Abu Bakr gave a drunk forty lashes.
حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمٌ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ جَلَدَ النَّبِيُّ فِي الْخَمْرِ بِالْجَرِيدِ وَالنِّعَالِ، وَجَلَدَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَرْبَعِينَ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the punishment for drunkenness. It was narrated by Anas that the Prophet and Abu Bakr both punished a drunk person with lashes. The Prophet used date leaf stalks and shoes to lash the person while Abu Bakr gave forty lashes as punishment. This hadith teaches us that intoxication is not allowed in Islam and it should be punished accordingly. It also shows us how important it is to follow the teachings of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in all aspects of life.
