Sahih al-Bukhari 6747 (Book 85, Hadith 24) #6490
Brotherhood between Ansar and Emigrants

SUMMARY: The hadith explains the bond of brotherhood between the Ansar and the emigrants, which was established by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It also explains how this bond was cancelled when a verse from Quran was revealed.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: Regarding the Holy Verse:--'And to everyone, We have appointed heirs'. And:-- (4:33) 'To those also to Whom your right hands have pledged'. (4:33) When the emigrants came to Medina, the Ansar used to be the heir of the emigrants (and vice versa) instead of their own kindred by blood (Dhawl-l-arham), and that was because of the bond of brotherhood which the Prophet had established between them, ie the Ansar and the emigrants. But when the Divine Verse:-- 'And to everyone We have appointed heirs,' (4:33) was revealed, it cancelled the other, order ie 'To those also, to whom Your right hands have pledged'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Show kindness and compassion towards others; be generous; build strong relationships with people around you; be loyal to your friends and family members; respect each other’s differences.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about the strong bond of brotherhood that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) established between two groups of people - The Ansars and The Muhajireen. The Muhajireen were those who migrated from Makkah to Medina in order to follow Prophet Muhammad's teachings while the Ansaars were those who welcomed them with open arms in Medina. This bond was so strong that it even superseded blood ties as they became each other's heirs instead of their own relatives. However, when a verse from Quran was revealed stating that everyone has an appointed heir regardless of any other ties or relationships, this bond became nullified.
