Sahih al-Bukhari 6716 (Book 84, Hadith 9) #6460
Compassion and Kindness of the Prophet ﷺ

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ showed compassion and kindness by buying a slave from an Ansari man who had no other property.

Narrated 'Amr: Jabir said: An Ansari man made his slave a Mudabbar and he had no other property than him. When the Prophet heard of that, he said (to his companions), "Who wants to buy him (ie, the slave) for me?" Nu'aim bin An-Nahham bought him for eight hundred Dirhams. I heard Jabir saying, "That was a coptic slave who died in the same year".

QUICK LESSONS:
Showing mercy & kindness towards others regardless of our obligations or lack thereof .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the compassion and kindness of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It is narrated that an Ansari man made his slave a Mudabbar and he had no other property than him. When the Prophet ﷺ heard of this he asked who wanted to buy him for him. Nu'aim bin An-Nahham bought him for eight hundred Dirhams. This shows us that even though the Prophet ﷺ was not obligated to do so, he still showed mercy and kindness towards this man by buying his slave from him in order to help alleviate his financial burden. This teaches us that we should always strive to show mercy and kindness towards others regardless of our obligations or lack thereof as it is one of the most important values in Islam which will be rewarded greatly by Allah SWT on Judgement Day.
