Sahih al-Bukhari 6704 (Book 83, Hadith 81) #6448
Compassion and Mercy of the Prophet

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ showed mercy and compassion to a man who had taken a vow to stand, never sit down, never come in the shade, nor speak to anyone and fast.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: While the Prophet was delivering a sermon, he saw a man standing, so he asked about that man. They (the people) said, "It is Abu Israil who has vowed that he will stand and never sit down, and he will never come in the shade, nor speak to anybody, and will fast'.' The Prophet said, "Order him to speak and let him come in the shade, and make him sit down, but let him complete his fast".

QUICK LESSONS:
Show kindness & compassion towards others even if they are doing something which may seem strange from our perspective as long as it does not harm anyone else or break any laws set by Allah SWT .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the compassion and mercy of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It narrates an incident where he saw a man standing while he was delivering his sermon. People told him that this man had taken a vow to stand all day, not come in the shade or talk to anyone and fast. Instead of reprimanding him for taking such an extreme vow, The Prophet ﷺ asked them to let him complete his fast but also asked them to make him sit down in the shade and talk if he wanted. This shows us how merciful The Prophet ﷺ was even towards those who were taking extreme vows out of devotion or piety. He showed us that we should be compassionate towards others even if they are doing something which may seem strange or extreme from our perspective as long as it does not harm anyone else or break any laws set by Allah SWT . We should always remember that Allah SWT is Most Merciful so we should strive to emulate His attributes by being kind and compassionate towards others just like The Prophet ﷺ did during his lifetime.
