Sahih al-Bukhari 6698 (Book 83, Hadith 75) #6442
Fulfilling Vows of Deceased Parents

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ gave a verdict that if someone's mother had made a vow and died without fulfilling it, then the son should fulfill it on her behalf.

Narrated Sa'id bin 'Ubada Al-Ansari: that he consulted the Prophet about a vow that had been made by his mother who died without fulfilling it. The Prophet gave his verdict that he should fulfill it on her behalf. The verdict became Sunna (ie the Prophet's tradition).

QUICK LESSONS:
Fulfill promises/vows made by deceased parents as an act of kindness and mercy towards them .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about fulfilling the vows of deceased parents. It was narrated by Sa'id bin 'Ubada Al-Ansari who consulted the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ about a vow that his mother had made but died before she could fulfill it. The Prophet ﷺ gave his verdict that he should fulfill it on her behalf as an act of kindness and mercy towards her. This became part of the tradition or Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ which means that this is something we should do in order to honor our parents even after they have passed away. We can show our love for them by fulfilling their wishes and promises even if they are no longer here with us physically.
