Serving Guests at Weddings

SUMMARY: Abu Usaid, a companion of the Prophet, invited him to his wedding and the bride served them with an infusion of dates.

Narrated Abu Hazim: Sahl bin Sa'd said, "Abu Usaid, the companion of the Prophet, got married, so he invited the Prophet to his wedding party, and the bride herself served them. Sahl said to the People, 'Do you know what drink she served him with? She infused some dates in a pot at night and the next morning she served him with the infusion".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be hospitable when hosting others; provide food & drinks; be generous & kind towards your visitors; make sure your guests are comfortable during their stay with you.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about hospitality and serving guests at weddings. It was narrated by Abu Hazim and Sahl bin Sa'd that Abu Usaid, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, got married and invited him to his wedding party. The bride herself served them with an infusion made from dates that she had infused in a pot overnight. This shows us how important it is to be hospitable when hosting guests for any occasion or event, especially weddings. We should always strive to make our guests feel welcome by providing them with food and drinks as well as making sure they are comfortable during their stay with us. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us about being generous when hosting others; even though it may have been difficult for the bride to prepare such a drink for her guests on her own wedding day, she still did so out of kindness and generosity towards her visitors which is something we should all strive towards in our lives too!
