Sahih al-Bukhari 6651 (Book 83, Hadith 30) #6397
Discouraging the Wearing of Rings

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) wore a gold ring with a stone on it, but then threw it away and discouraged others from wearing rings.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: Allah's Messenger had a gold ring made for himself, and he used to wear it with the stone towards the inner part of his hand. Consequently, the people had similar rings made for themselves. Afterwards the Prophet; sat on the pulpit and took it off, saying, "I used to wear this ring and keep its stone towards the palm of my hand". He then threw it away and said, "By Allah, I will never wear it". Therefore all the people threw away their rings as well.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Ibn 'Umar tells us that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) once wore a gold ring with a stone on it. He then took off the ring and threw it away, saying that he would never wear it again. This action discouraged people from wearing rings as well, so they all threw away their own rings too. This hadith teaches us to be mindful of our actions and how they can influence others around us. We should always strive to do what is right in order to set an example for those around us, even if we are not aware of its effects at first. It also shows us that we should be careful about what we wear or use in our daily lives; if something does not fit within Islamic teachings or values, then we should avoid using or wearing them altogether.
