Sahih al-Bukhari 6650 (Book 83, Hadith 29) #6396
Avoiding Swearing and Gambling

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that one should not swear by Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, and should not gamble with others.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Whoever swears saying in his oath'.By Al-Lat and Al-Uzza,' should say, 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah; and whoever says to his friend, 'Come, let me gamble with you,' should give something in charity".

QUICK LESSONS:
Do not swear using false gods' names; Give something in charity instead of gambling with friends.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the importance of avoiding swearing by false gods or idols, as well as gambling with others. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) taught that if someone swears using the names of false gods such as Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, they should instead say "None has the right to be worshipped but Allah". Similarly, if someone invites their friend to gamble with them, they should instead give something in charity. This hadith emphasizes the importance of avoiding these two activities in order to remain true to Islam. It also encourages us to be generous towards others by giving charity when we are tempted to gamble or swear falsely.
