Sahih al-Bukhari 6590 (Book 81, Hadith 178) #6338
Greed for Wealth is Unacceptable

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ warned his followers against striving and struggling over the treasures of the world.

Narrated 'Uqba bin 'Amir: Once the Prophet went out and offered the funeral prayers for the martyrs of Uhud, and then went to the pulpit and said, "I am a predecessor for you and I am a witness for you: and by Allah, I am looking at my Fount just now, and the keys of the treasures of the earth (or the keys of the earth) have been given to me: and by Allah, I am not afraid that you will worship others besides Allah after me, but I am afraid that you will strive and struggle against each other over these treasures of the world".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be content with what you have; worship Allah alone; avoid greed for wealth; strive towards unity in faith.

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet (ﷺ) warns his followers against striving and struggling over the treasures of the world. He reminds them that he is a predecessor for them and a witness to their actions, and that Allah has given him keys to all of the treasures on earth. He expresses his fear that they will fight each other in pursuit of these worldly riches instead of worshipping Allah alone. This hadith teaches us that greed for wealth is unacceptable, as it can lead to conflict between people who should be united in faith instead. We should strive to be content with what we have, rather than seeking more than our share from this world's limited resources.
