Sahih al-Bukhari 6499 (Book 81, Hadith 88) #6248
The Intention Behind Good Deeds

SUMMARY: Doing good deeds for the sake of Allah and not to show off or gain praise from people is important.

Narrated Jundub: The Prophet said, "He who lets the people hear of his good deeds intentionally, to win their praise, Allah will let the people know his real intention (on the Day of Resurrection), and he who does good things in public to show off and win the praise of the people, Allah will disclose his real intention (and humiliate him).

QUICK LESSONS:
Do good deeds with sincerity and honesty for the sake of pleasing Allah only.
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that when we do good deeds it should be done with the intention of pleasing Allah and not to show off or gain praise from people. If we do good deeds with the intention of gaining praise from people then Allah will expose our real intentions on the Day of Resurrection and humiliate us. We should always strive to do good deeds for the sake of Allah alone without any expectation in return.
