Gratitude to Allah Through Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ was asked why he prayed so much and he replied that it was out of gratitude to Allah.

Narrated Al-Mughira bin Shu'ba: The Prophet used to pray so much that his feet used to become edematous or swollen, and when he was asked as to why he prays so much, he would say, "Shall I not be a thankful slave (to Allah)?"
حَدَّثَنَا خَلاَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنَا مِسْعَرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ عِلاَقَةَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ، يَقُولُ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ يُصَلِّي حَتَّى تَرِمَ ـ أَوْ تَنْتَفِخَ ـ قَدَمَاهُ فَيُقَالُ لَهُ، فَيَقُولُ ‏ "‏ أَفَلاَ أَكُونُ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was known for his devotion to prayer. He would pray so much that his feet would become swollen from standing in prayer for long periods of time. When asked why he prayed so much, the Prophet ﷺ replied that it was out of gratitude to Allah. This hadith teaches us the importance of being thankful and expressing our gratitude through prayer and worshiping Allah. It is a reminder that we should be grateful for all the blessings we have been given by our Creator and express this appreciation through acts of worship such as prayer. We should also strive to emulate the example set by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in terms of dedication and devotion when it comes to worshipping Allah.
