Sahih al-Bukhari 6208 (Book 78, Hadith 232) #5961
Mercy of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) showed mercy to his uncle Abu Talib, who had taken care of him and protected him, by ensuring that he would not be in the bottom-most depth of Hellfire.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Al-Harith bin Naufal: 'Abbas bin 'Abdul Muttalib said, "O Allah's Messenger ! Did you benefit Abu Talib with anything as he used to protect and take care of you, and used to become angry for you?" The Prophet said, "Yes, he is in a shallow place of Fire. Were it not for me, he would have been in the bottom-most depth of the Fire".

QUICK LESSONS:
Show kindness and compassion towards your family members regardless of their beliefs or actions as long as you are able to do so without compromising your own faith or values.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the mercy and compassion of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It is narrated by 'Abdullah bin Al-Harith bin Naufal that 'Abbas bin 'Abdul Muttalib asked the Prophet if he had done anything for his uncle Abu Talib, who had taken care of him and protected him. The Prophet replied that Abu Talib was in a shallow place in Hellfire but were it not for him, he would have been in its deepest depths. This shows us how merciful and compassionate our beloved prophet was towards those who took care of him even though they did not believe in Islam. He showed them mercy despite their disbelief because they were still family to him. This teaches us to show kindness and compassion towards our family members regardless of their beliefs or actions as long as we are able to do so without compromising our own faith or values.
