Sahih al-Bukhari 6190 (Book 78, Hadith 214) #5943
Refusing to Change One's Name

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ asked a man named Hazn what his name was and the man replied that it was the same name his father had given him. The Prophet ﷺ then said he should change it to Sahl, but Hazn refused.

Narrated Al-Musaiyab: That his father (Hazn bin Wahb) went to the Prophet and the Prophet asked (him), "What is your name?" He replied, "My name is Hazn". The Prophet said, "You are Sahl". Hazn said, "I will not change the name with which my father has named me". Ibn Al-Musaiyab added: We have had roughness (in character) ever since. Narrated Al-Musaiyab: on the authority of his father similarly as above (ie, 209).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a man named Hazn who went to visit the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. When asked what his name was, he replied that it was the same name as his father had given him. The Prophet ﷺ then suggested that he change it to Sahl, but Hazn refused. This teaches us an important lesson about respecting our parents and honoring their decisions even if we don't agree with them. It also shows us how important respect is in Islam; even though we may not agree with someone or something, we should still show respect for them or it. We can also learn from this hadith that sometimes our parents know best and we should trust their judgement even if we don't understand why they are making certain decisions for us at first glance.
