Sahih al-Bukhari 6115 (Book 78, Hadith 142) #5871
The Power of Seeking Refuge with Allah

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught two men a phrase to help them relax and stop arguing.

Narrated Sulaiman bin Sarad: Two men abused each other in front of the Prophet while we were sitting with him. One of the two abused his companion furiously and his face became red. The Prophet said, "I know a word (sentence) the saying of which will cause him to relax if this man says it. Only if he said, "I seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the outcast'. " So they said to that (furious) man, 'Don't you hear what the Prophet is saying?" He said, "I am not mad".

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek refuge in Allah when feeling overwhelmed or angry

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the power of seeking refuge with Allah from Satan, the outcast. It was narrated by Sulaiman bin Sarad that two men were arguing in front of the Prophet and one man's face became red from anger. The Prophet then taught them a phrase which would help them relax if they said it - "I seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the outcast." This hadith teaches us that when we are feeling angry or overwhelmed, we should take a moment to seek refuge in Allah and remember His greatness. Doing so will help us to relax and regain our composure. We should also remember that no matter how angry we may feel, it is important not to lose control or say things we may regret later on.
