Sahih al-Bukhari 6045 (Book 78, Hadith 75) #5804
The Repercussions of False Accusations

SUMMARY: Accusations of wrongdoing should not be made unless one is certain of the truth, as such accusations will reflect on the accuser if they are false.

Narrated Abu Dhar: That he heard the Prophet saying, "If somebody accuses another of Fusuq (by calling him 'Fasiq' ie a wicked person) or accuses him of Kufr, such an accusation will revert to him (ie the accuser) if his companion (the accused) is innocent".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be careful when making accusations against others

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that we should be careful when making accusations against others, as any false accusation will come back to haunt us. We must make sure that we have evidence and proof before accusing someone else of wrongdoing or disbelief. If our companion is innocent, then the accusation will revert to us and we will be held accountable for it. This hadith also encourages us to think twice before speaking ill about someone else, as it can have serious consequences for both parties involved.
