Sahih al-Bukhari 5999 (Book 78, Hadith 30) #5759
The Mercy of Allah Surpasses All

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the mercy of Allah and how it surpasses even the mercy of a mother for her child.

Narrated 'Umar bin Al-Khattab: Some Sabi (ie war prisoners, children and woman only) were brought before the Prophet and behold, a woman amongst them was milking her breasts to feed and whenever she found a child amongst the captives, she took it over her chest and nursed it (she had lost her child but later she found him) the Prophet said to us, "Do you think that this lady can throw her son in the fire?" We replied, "No, if she has the power not to throw it (in the fire)". The Prophet then said, "Allah is more merciful to His slaves than this lady to her son".

QUICK LESSONS:
Remembering how merciful our Lord is towards us no matter what situation we are in or what mistakes we have made; He will always forgive us if we turn back to Him in repentance .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the immense mercy that Allah has for His slaves. It tells us that even a mother's love and mercy for her child cannot compare to the love and mercy that Allah has for us. The Prophet Muhammad was presented with some captives, among them was a woman who had lost her son but found him again among those captives. She nursed him as if he were her own, showing immense love and care towards him. When asked if she would be able to throw him into fire, everyone answered no because of how much she loved him. The Prophet then said that this woman's love could not compare to the love and mercy that Allah has for His slaves, which is far greater than any other kind of love or compassion in this world. We can learn from this hadith that we should always remember how merciful our Lord is towards us no matter what situation we are in or what mistakes we have made; He will always forgive us if we turn back to Him in repentance.
