Sahih al-Bukhari 5772 (Book 76, Hadith 86) #5537
Superstition and Bad Luck

SUMMARY: There is no such thing as superstition or bad luck, and the only three things that can bring bad luck are a horse, a woman and a house.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: Allah's Messenger said, "there is neither 'Adwa nor Tiyarah, and an evil omen is only in three: a horse, a woman and a house".

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek guidance from Allah before making any decision so we can make sure our decisions are based on wisdom and knowledge rather than superstitious beliefs.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that there is no such thing as superstitious beliefs or bad luck. It teaches us to not believe in superstitions like 'Adwa or Tiyarah, which are beliefs that certain events can be predicted by signs like birds flying in the sky. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that the only three things that can bring bad luck are a horse, a woman and a house. This means that if you buy any of these three items, it could potentially bring you misfortune. However, this does not mean we should avoid buying them altogether; rather it is just an indication to be careful when making decisions related to these items. We should always seek guidance from Allah before making any decision so we can make sure our decisions are based on wisdom and knowledge rather than superstitious beliefs.
