Sahih al-Bukhari 5751 (Book 76, Hadith 66) #5517
Reciting Mu'auwidhat for Blessing During Illness

SUMMARY: The Prophet used to recite two surahs, Surat-an-Nas and Surat-al-Falaq, while blowing on his hands and passing them over his body for its blessing during his illness.

Narrated 'Aisha: The Prophet, during his fatal ailment used to blow (on his hands and pass them) over his body while reciting the Mu'auwidhat (Surat-an-Nas and Surat-al-Falaq). When his disease got aggravated, I used to recite them for him and blow (on his hands) and let him pass his hands over his body because of its blessing. (Ma'mar asked Ibn Shihab: How did he use to do Nafth? He said: He used to blow on his hands and then pass them over his face)

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's practice of reciting two supplications, known as the Mu'auwidhat, during his illness. These supplications are found in the Quran in the form of two surahs - Surat an Nas and Surah al Falaq. He would recite these verses while blowing on his hands and then pass them over himself for its blessing. This was done to seek protection from any harm or evil that may come upon him due to his sickness. It is a reminder that we should always turn to Allah in times of difficulty and seek His protection through prayer and supplication. We should also remember that Allah's blessings are with us at all times if we turn to Him with sincerity and faithfulness.
